PMK, acting as the principal and electrical contractor, in collaboration with Musco Lighting, successfully delivered one of the largest sports lighting retrofits to take place in recent years in Northern Ireland.
The Ulster Council GAA LED Upgrade Project involved the replacement of outdated lighting systems at three key regional GAA stadiums—Athletic Grounds Armagh, Healy Park Omagh, and Celtic Park Derry. Hundreds of 2kW HID fittings were replaced with energy-efficient LED technology, providing world-class lighting for both players and spectators. Providing a minimum 750lux average to International TV Broadcasting Standards.
Scope of Work:
- Upgraded stadium lighting systems to energy-efficient, high-performance LED solutions.
- Replaced hundreds of 2kW HID fittings across three stadiums with advanced LED technology.
- Ensured compliance with GAA and regulatory standards for sporting event lighting.
- As principal and electrical contractor, PMK managed the installation with two cranes and expert logistics coordination, including carefully managed crane lifting and traffic management plans.
- Provided specialist consultation for high mast working, ensuring safety and precision throughout the installation process.
- Worked closely with stadium managers, local authorities, and the respective county board chairmen and secretaries to coordinate schedules and manage logistics efficiently, ensuring no disruption to training or games.
- Disposed of the old HID fittings in an environmentally friendly manner, displaying best-in-class practice for waste disposal and sustainability.
- Utilised off-site manufacturing for control kiosks, brackets, and containment systems, which expedited installation and minimised disruption to operations.
