Paul Mc Kearney establishes PMK Electrical Contractors.

Same year Apple’s Macintosh introduces the graphical interface — a sign of digital change to come.

1985

Takes on first apprentice and expands fleet.

Computer-aided design (CAD) starts becoming standard in engineering firms.

1986

Wins first large project, gains NIC EIC accreditation, and adopts fax technology.

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) begin modernising industrial automation.

1987

Delivers first large housing development.

Mobile communications and early GSM open doors to real-time site coordination.

1990

Secures first healthcare project.

Building Management Systems (BMS) begin emerging in hospitals and large facilities.

1995

Expands into Dublin’s landmark pubs.

Structured cabling standards evolve; Cat 5 cabling becomes the norm, enabling integrated voice, data, and video in hospitality and commercial projects.

2000

8 vans on the road, 25+ employees

Wi-Fi adoption begins; Cat 5e emerges as enhanced standard, and data cabling becomes essential in all new builds

2002

Gets first company email address.

Digital communication reshapes coordination across construction teams.

2003

Launches Specialist Control and Automation Division.

Aligns with the rise of intelligent building automation; Cat 6 cabling starts supporting higher-speed networks in offices and schools.

2004

Wins school projects across Ireland.

Cat 6 structured cabling is now widely specified in educational projects to support future digital learning environments.

2005

Launches First Website and Partners with Musco Sports Lighting.

PMK launches its first website and becomes an official Musco Sports Lighting installation partner, opening new opportunities in sports and arena lighting projects.

At the same time, web-based project management tools begin gaining traction in the construction industry, while LED lighting starts entering large-scale sports and public lighting projects.

2006

Secures multi-million Aberdeen contract.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) begins to influence major construction projects in the UK.

Builds new HQ with stores, offices, and parking.

Expands into the UK market.

2022

Establishes Four Core Divisions and Expands Client Base.

Contracts, Specialist Services, Maintenance, and Compliance are established as the company’s core divisions and gradually becomes a trusted contractor across the UK and Ireland, serving a diverse client base in industrial, commercial, education, healthcare, and sports sectors.

2023

Rebrands to PMK and launches new website.
